Humor: Small Talk

by Zack Kushner

Until recently, I lived in Australia. There, like in America and elsewhere, small talk has a certain predictable pattern.

You ask, “How you doing?” (or, in Australia, “How ya going?”)

You ask about how your conversational partner knows the host, or ended up at the convention, or whether they’re a friend of the bride’s or the groom’s.

Then, when you can’t think of anything else, you ask what they do for a living.

Cameron Adams, a web technologist from Sydney Australia, provides good reason to try harder to think of something else to ask — especially if you’re a web designer. Cameron works in graphic design, codes websites, teaches workshops, writes books and, luckily for us, makes the occasional flowchart. This one is posted on his website, The Man in Blue:

Nice one, Cameron.
